Highlands and Islands MSP Donald Cameron welcomed a renewed commitment by the Chancellor of the Exchequer to deliver a Rural Growth Deal for Argyll and Bute worth a total of £50 million.
The deal is led by the UK Government and supported by the Scottish Government, and was confirmed in the by the Chancellor’s following his budget statement in the House of Commons earlier this afternoon.
“I am delighted that the Chancellor has confirmed that Argyll and Bute’s Rural Growth Deal will be going ahead, and has today committed a figure of £25 million to achieve this. I also welcome the fact that the UK Government are looking to act fast to ensure that this investment delivers for local communities across the area.
“Argyll and Bute Council has done a good job of setting out a clear case for UK funding, and this sizeable sum of money will help boost the local economy and deliver transformational projects.
“Now we must work to get the deal signed off as soon as possible, and I will work with both the UK and Scottish Governments, and others, to ensure this happens.”
